As an artist is important for me to make a connection with my subject, something about it has to appeal to me, whether it is the contrast, the repetition of pattern, texture etc. By observing and absorbing the essence of the subject it becomes imprinted in my brain. Because of this, I can put myself back into the creative space that I was in when I painted the images. For example, in my ocean paintings, I can still feel the humid heat of the day and in my Muir Forest painting, I can feel the density and darkness of the forest. My goal as an artist is to project my emotions through my painting, so that you the viewer feel what I feel.
