Claudette Brown

                                   Artist Biography

I have been an artist all of my life and I was blessed with parents who encouraged my talent. My father supplied the tools I needed and my mother gave me the Art lessons. She would place a teapot or shoe in front of me and tell me to draw it. She would watch as I drew and she would interject with constructive advice, “include the shadows, look at the angle, and see the shape…”  At other times, she would be my model, sitting in certain poses while I drew her.

In 1972, in High School, I received a certificate from the Minneapolis, Minnesota Correspondence School of Art.

In 1973, after High School, I received a diploma for a one year Commercial Art Course from the Assiniboine Community College in Brandon, Manitoba.

In 1978, I graduated with a Bachelor of Education from the University of Alberta with a double major in Art and Early Childhood.

In 2005, I taught a University level Art Education Curriculum course, CUME 345 at Faculty St. Jean.

From 2006 to 2009, I presented art workshops to teachers at North Central Alberta Teachers Convention and for the Greater Edmonton Inner City Schools.

After 29 years of teaching in the elementary school and being the Art Specialist, I retired from the Parkland School District.

Presently, I am actively painting and I offer private Art lessons at my acreage studio, west of Stony Plain, CBrown Art Studio (established in 1996). The fundamentals of drawing and painting are taught through critiquing, a technique I learned at SuttonArt. I teach drawing, and painting in watercolour, oil or acrylic mediums.     Mission and Artist Statements:

I am in awe of God’s creation. It is a constant source of inspiration to me, as an artist. I fulfill my artistic need by tapping into this resource and by having faith that my creative essence will flow through which ever medium I choose to use. As a teacher, it is my calling to share the knowledge I incur on this journey and to pass it onto my students to the best of my ability so that they too, may fulfill their creative need.

My paintings express the gratitude I have for my God-given artistic talent and for constant source of inspiration I get through nature’s beauty.  However, my work is only half of the visual experience. You, my viewer, are the other half. Therefore, I would like to invite you to participate and to experience your own reality by viewing my work. It is a pleasure to share my creations with you; I hope my work speaks to you.
